Drayage Visibility Shipment Lifecycle
This page provides an overview of the shipment lifecycle for ocean shipments with drayage visibility in Project44's visibility solution. It explains when drayage tracking starts and stops, and how enhanced drayage events are integrated with standard ocean tracking.
When Does Drayage Tracking Start?
Drayage visibility tracking starts when a shipment with drayage identifiers reaches the Port of Discharge or last rail terminal where the container becomes available for drayage carrier pickup.
Conditions for drayage tracking start:
- Standard ocean shipment tracking is already active
- Container reaches Port of Discharge or last inland rail facility
- Shipment includes drayage identifiers (
IMPORT_DRAYAGE_CARRIER_SCAC) - The drayage carrier is in the project44 network
How to verify start:
- Look for drayage-specific events like
DEPARTURE_FROM_STOPat Origin stop (Port of Discharge/Rail Terminal) in the /getshipmenteventhistory response.
When Does Drayage Tracking Stop?
Drayage tracking concludes when the empty container is returned to the designated depot or carrier facility, marking the completion of the drayage lifecycle.
Drayage tracking stops when:
GATE_IN_EMPTY_CONTAINER_AT_TERMINALevent occurs at the Return stop- Empty container is successfully returned to carrier facility
- Standard ocean tracking ends (manual termination, timeout, etc.)
How to verify stop:
- Look for the
GATE_IN_EMPTY_CONTAINER_AT_TERMINALevent at the Return stop in the /getshipmenteventhistory response. - The latest shipment state will be COMPLETED.
Drayage Route Structure
Drayage visibility adds three additional stops to the standard ocean route:
- Origin Stop: Port of Discharge or last rail terminal where drayage carrier collects container
- Destination Stop: Final delivery location (consignee facility)
- Return Stop: Empty container return depot
Key Drayage Events:
ARRIVAL_AT_STOP,DEPARTURE_FROM_STOP- At all drayage stopsDELIVERY- At Destination stopGATE_IN_EMPTY- At Return stop
For more information on drayage events, see the Ocean Shipment Schema Events.
