Extended Ocean Visibility
Project44's Extended Ocean Visibility converges data from multiple sources to give you comprehensive visibility into tracking milestones for pre- and on-carriage shipments along with the regular milestones for main ocean leg.
π Freight Forwarders
- Project44 has connections with a wide range of freight forwarders that include major global players as well as regional specialists, ensuring that we can cover a broad spectrum of shipping needs and routes. The comprehensive list of freight forwarders we integrate with can be found in our Freight Forwarder List.
- By integrating with these freight forwarders, project44 is able to track shipment moves that may not be directly handled by ocean carriers, such as those involving pre-carriage (the transportation of goods to the port of loading) and on-carriage (the transportation of goods from the port of discharge to the final destination) movements across various modes of transport, including road, rail and barge.
π Integration with Freight Forwarders
The freight forwarders are integrated into Project44 platform via APIs, EDI, and other data exchange methods, allowing us to gather real-time updates on the status of your shipments. The data collected from these freight forwarders is then processed into our unified shipment schema, which is clearly explained in our Shipment Schema Guide.
π EDI Integrations
- Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the most widely used method among traditional integrations for transmitting milestone events in structured formats (e.g., EDIFACT, ANSI X12).
- Providers push standardized event messages (e.g., 315 β Status Details, 301 β Booking Confirmation) to project44 systems on defined triggers.
βοΈ API Integrations
Modern integrations and digital-first platforms are adopting REST APIs for more dynamic data access. Project44 supports both Push and Pull models depending on the providerβs capabilities.
- β¬οΈ API Pull Model: The provider pushes shipment events to a project44 webhook endpoint as they occur (event-driven).
- β¬οΈ API Push Model: Project44 periodically queries provider APIs for shipment and container updates.
π Hybrid Integrations
Some providers offer both EDI and APIs, allowing project44 to use a hybrid approach β e.g., reducing the latency by querying the API to get data fast, and then using EDI to get the full set of data for the shipment.
𧩠Ocean Carrier Data Blending
- Project44's Extended Ocean Visibility also includes data blending capabilities, which allow us to combine data from multiple sources like ocean carriers and freight forwarders.
- This blending of data allows us to retrieve milestones directly from ocean carriers, enhancing the quality and latency of the main ocean leg milestones, as ocean carriers typically provide more accurate and timely updates compared to freight forwarders for the main ocean leg.
- The data blending process, which is detailed in our Data Blending Guide, ensures that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date information about your shipments at each stage of their journey.
𧱠Container Tracking
- Project44's Extended Ocean Visibility also includes container discovery and tracking capabilities for FCL shipments, which allows you to monitor the status and location of your containers associated with the shipments separately, throughout their whole journey.
- This feature is similar to container tracking in P2P Ocean Visibility, but with additional visibility of pre- and on-carriage milestones via freight forwarders.
- The containers associated with the shipments are retrieved from freight forwarders connections, and the tracking is done via the same data blending process as described above.
Further documentation describes how to write a client application to integrate your TMS or other system to the project44 platform through our APIs.
